Dear podficcer, I hope this letter finds you well, and thank you for being here! This is my first time participating in an exchange, and I'm really looking forward to it. I hope you find a fun project to work on, and I'm sure I'll love whatever you make :D

My favorite thing in podfic is listening to dialogue or narration that evoked something for the reader, so if you're excited to record it, I'm excited to listen. I'm okay with any rating, gen to explicit. I particularly love stories that are interested in queer identity and community, I enjoy sapphic genderbends, and I always love trans main characters. However, please avoid pregnancy and kid fic, police or incarceration AUs, heavy suicide themes, major character death or hurt-no-comfort, and A/B/O.

Fast & Furious: Dom/Brian, please! As long as they're making bad choices in fast cars I'm very happy. Moresomes that include Letty and/or Mia are welcome, too.

Batman: I'm in it for Batman/Superman. I love tropey identity porn stories or enemies-to-lovers, but I also love a more World's-Finest, established comrades plot. I am not as interested in the Batfam, but that's just because I haven't had time for the comics yet—if there's a story you love that has Clark/Bruce and a side helping of Bruce's kids, I'm all for it.

Supernatural: Dean/Castiel, Dean/Victor, Dean/Benny, or gen, but please no Sam/Dean. I prefer stories which are very close to canon, so canon divergence is great but full AUs, like the classic coffee shop, are not for me. I love monster-of-the-week/case fic, character studies, angsty pining, messy family relationships, and funny dialogue; extra points if Charlie, Jo, Ellen, Meg, or Bela have a major role.

Naruto: I like Naruto/Sasuke, Team 7, or Kakashi-centric (gen character study, Kakashi/Iruka, Kakashi/Obito, Kakashi/Gai, Kakashi/Yamato, it's all good with me!). Team bonding and cool ninja stuff is my favorite.

Dragon Ball: I'm here for Vegeta. Vegeta/Goku or Vegeta/Bulma or gen, character studies, family vignettes, precanon—as long as Vegeta is having his moment, I'm happy to be there.

Transformers: Any iteration, but Megatron/Optimus or Megatron-centric, please! I love his regret, dedication to the cause, and competence.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Spike/Buffy or Faith/Buffy or Scoobies feels. I love introspection, angst with a happy ending, and lively dialogue. Outsider POV is really fun, too! If Giles is there, that's a plus for me.

My Hero Academia: Katsuki Bakugou/Izuku Midoriya or All Might/Eraserhead are my favorites, but I also like Class 1A gen. I will love anything with introspection, fun plots or silly quirk effects, and All Might getting the appreciation he deserves.

due South: No Ray wars here, all Rays are welcome! The more whimsical, offbeat, and just a little sad, the better. Extra points if Franny gets to do something fun! I am not a fan of the Victoria plot, and would rather not hear about her in detail.

The Magicians (TV show only, haven't read the books): Quentin/Eliot or Eliot & Margo, please! I love Eliot's melodrama.

The Queen's Thief: Literally anything you'd like to do would be SO welcome—gen or shippy, canonical het pairings or slash. I love all of our main characters, but Costis is my favorite so I would be particularly excited for Gen/Costis, Gen/Costis/Irene, or Costis/Kamet; I always want to hear about Costis being loyal and loved. I'm also always interested to hear about Gen and his gods.

Giving: Everything above, plus I can do Stranger Things, The Witcher, Men's Hockey RPF, 9-1-1, Stargate Atlantis, X-Men (alternate timeline movies), Leverage, Star Wars (prequels/original trilogy/sequels, Clone Wars, or Rebels), Star Trek (original series or 2009 movies), The Old Guard, and Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood/manga).

i keep having weirdly good (??) days at work and i guess i wanted to write about it, anyway

i got a raise wednesday, because i am the very very bottom of the pay scale at work and the county decided that it was comically low so they're giving me another fourteen cents an hour. and hey! money! i like having more money! but there's a part of me that's like, oh, yippee, an extra fourteen cents and you still want me on hand whenever to staff a hurricane shelter with, as far as i can tell, no PPE and no training beyond one hour-long online video. so fuck you. but also, hey, money!

but the main thing here is that i've managed to acquire projects that i care about and develop friendly relationships with most of my coworkers, and it feels really nice. one of the things i've been working on is a grab-and-go mystery bag service for the youth department, because we don't staff that desk in the mornings and only have a staff member available for assistance in the afternoons when we get all of our after school kids and i still wanted some services to be available back there. i've done bags on all kinds of themes; i did space and dinosaurs to start, then fairy tales, ocean creatures, mythology, spooky books, space comics, and now i have another spooky bag, one about dragons and unicorns, historical fiction, and one about cryptids. (someone wrote a kids book about mothman!) most of these have been checked out, and of course i can't confirm in any certain terms that the kids who checked them out liked everything or even most of the things in the bags, but it's still really satisfying that a thing i decided to do and manage myself has had a small but measurable effect on our patrons

awhile ago a coworker and i got sort of voluntold to put together a facebook live about graphic novels for an adult audience, and it went pretty well, so a colleague at a different library in the system asked us if we'd be willing to host a panel for the libraries' comic con over zoom, and obviously we said yes. so we've been researching and putting together a fun presentation about horror comics from the fifties to the present, and it's good that we're doing it together because i have terrible impulses and always want to get really academic about things. it's a fun project and it feels exciting to get to contribute to a county-wide program and have my work recognized, and it's also a good excuse to hang out with my coworker, whom i like a lot

we had a long talk today about committees because i felt kind of hopeless about the one that i'm on, and the coworker i'm doing a panel with gave me this really lovely pep talk about the work she's doing with the equity diversity & inclusion committee, which they had to fight and fight to even convene. they're going to implement a preferred name field on all of our patron records so we aren't just calling everyone their legal name, and it's this small late change but she really fought for it and was coming from this really genuine place of trying to make more people feel welcome and safe in the library. it was just such a kind conversation to have, because she was trying to tell me that i can help make positive change too. i'm not an incrementalist by nature but it's good to see concrete change in operation

some of the point of this long dull post is that i vacillate wildly between feeling like i'm not doing anything at all (i got paid to... google comic books?) and like i'm trying really, really hard, so sometimes it's good to write down a list of things that i'm working on so i can refer to it when i've become convinced that i do nothing, accomplish nothing, and am generally a schmuck

obviously this movie ate my brain immediately, right, like it has medieval gay people and charlize theron. i'm a simple man, &c

hot takes! )hot takes! )

one of the things i’ve been working on for my library is a tabletop roleplaying program for kids & teens that we can play remotely, and as a result i have a lot of thoughts about tabletop rpgs

(i stuck this on tumblr first but it's not really a very good tumblr post, so i took it down there & am keeping it here)

when i was fourteen or so i read from hell, the huge comic alan moore did with eddie campbell. i have no interest in trying to defend its artistic excesses or its putative appropriateness for a teenaged audience; it attempts to comment on tawdry depictions of misogynistic violence for shock value by providing some extremely gory depictions of misogynistic violence, has not one but two appendices, and features some extremely awkward engagement with various conspiracy theories and nationalist conceptions of british identity, for starters. i loved it a lot.

alright this is perhaps extremely silly but i have been, like probably everyone else, Having A Time lately, so what i have been thinking about is silly nerd shit. here are my thoughts on appropriate knitwear for the main characters of supernatural, the awful tv show which will not leave me alone

sweater thoughts! )

still very frustrated by how hard it is to use this website on my phone, because i'm a lazy schmuck and i don't know where my laptop is half the time, but i really appreciate how much it is not surveilling me
i'm just gonna yell about the untamed down here )

in the dumb facebook group i’m in for people who want to talk about libraries & adjacent topics online someone just posted asking if they would be in violation of the law if they made free color-it-yourself bookmarks for their patrons that used their rendition of baby yoda, and i am so upset by this question

it has been a literal year because i'm very lazy & do all my blogging from my phone, and also because i got super busy after i last posted: i got a job, and then the job was on balance kind of bad but i had it for a while, and then i got a new job, which is so far pretty okay.

cut for more babble, this time about... white collar? )

i realize i have been essentially absent from here but i tend to be quiet online in general. i really like the low-pressure 'reblog cute animal, whine in tags' thing tumblr has going on.

life updates?? )

girderednerve: crop of a twelfth-century scribe against a blue background (Default)
I've always been pretty quiet on social media because I have no idea how people like, figure out what isn't super weird to post. I don't know if this qualifies, but here is a breakdown of a story concept I've been hammering out with a friend of mine. (They aren't on here.) It is a medieval AU about Daredevil, from the bad Netflix show! I have been thinking about it a lot.
